or
One 9×13 pan of homemade brownies, baked and cooled
For the Cream Cheese Layer
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
½ cup powdered sugar
1 cup whipped topping or freshly whipped cream
For the Chocolate Pudding Layer
2 boxes (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix
3 cups cold milk
For the Topping
2 cups whipped topping
Chocolate shavings, mini chocolate chips, or cocoa powder for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Brownies
Begin by baking your brownies according to package or recipe instructions. For best results, use a fudgy brownie recipe rather than a cake-like one. Fudgy brownies hold moisture better and create richer layers.
Allow brownies to cool completely. This is essential. Warm brownies will melt the cream layers and ruin the structure of your dessert.
Once cooled, cut brownies into small bite-size squares.
Step 2: Make the Cream Cheese Layer
In a mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth and lump-free.
Add powdered sugar and continue beating until creamy.
Gently fold in whipped topping using a spatula. This keeps the mixture light and airy instead of dense.
Set aside.
Step 3: Prepare the Chocolate Pudding
In a separate bowl, whisk together pudding mix and cold milk.
Whisk for about 2 minutes until thick and smooth.Let the pudding sit for 5 minutes to fully set before layering.
Step 4: Assemble the Brownie Lasagna
Use a 9×13 inch dish for layering.
First Layer
Spread half of the brownie pieces evenly across the bottom of the dish.
Second Layer
Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the brownies using a spatula.
Third Layer
Pour half of the chocolate pudding on top of the cream layer and spread evenly.
Repeat the Layers
Add the remaining brownies, followed by the remaining cream mixture, then the remaining pudding.
Final Layer
Top everything with whipped topping, spreading it evenly across the surface.
Sprinkle with chocolate shavings, mini chips, or a light dusting of cocoa powder.
Step 5: Chill and Set
Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
This chilling time is not optional. It allows:
The layers to firm up
The flavors to blend
The dessert to slice cleanly
How the Layers Work Together
As the dessert chills, something special happens. The brownies absorb a bit of moisture from the cream and pudding, becoming even more fudgy. The cream layer softens and blends with the chocolate pudding, creating a unified texture that feels luxurious rather than heavy.
By the time you serve it, every forkful delivers multiple layers at once — no single flavor dominates, and every bite feels balanced.
