I grew up eating taco burgers at a local fast-food restaurant. They no longer make the burger, so I decided to make my own but wanted a smaller slider version. A “funeral sandwich” recipe was my inspiration for developing this slider.
Cook time: 20 Min Prep time: 30 Min Serves: 8-12
Ingredients
3 lb ground beef
1 md onion, finely diced
3/4 c taco seasoning mix
2 c water
1 jar mild taco sauce
8 oz cheddar cheese, finely shredded
24 dinner rolls
1/2 c butter, melted
Directions
1. In a Dutch oven boil ground beef, in enough water to cover, until no longer pink.
2. Break beef up into very small pieces as it is cooking. Drain and discard water.
3. Return ground beef to pan and add the diced onion, taco seasoning mix, and 2 c water.
4. Mix thoroughly then simmer until all liquid is absorbed.
5. Grease a large cookie sheet. Split all the rolls in half.
6. Spread a thin layer of taco sauce on each half. Lay the bottom halves on the cookie sheet.
7. Layer the tops of the bottom halves in the following order: 1 tablespoon of grated cheddar and about 3 tablespoons of taco meat.
8. Add 1 more tablespoon of grated cheddar and top bun.
9. Once all 24 rolls are assembled, brush the top of each roll with the melted butter.
10. Cover the rolls with aluminum foil. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes.
11. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes.
