French Ham & Cheese Lasagna
A rich, creamy twist on classic lasagna — layers of tender pasta, savory ham, and silky béchamel with melted cheese in every bite
Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 40 minutes
Total time: 1 hour
Yield: 6–8 servings
Ingredients:
Lasagna:
* 9 lasagna noodles
* 3 cups cooked ham, sliced or chopped
* 2½ cups shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
* 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
* Salt and black pepper, to taste
* Chopped parsley (for garnish)
Creamy Béchamel Sauce:
* 4 tbsp butter
* 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
* 3 cups whole milk, warm
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 1/4 tsp black pepper
* Pinch of nutmeg (optional but classic)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Cook lasagna noodles in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
4. Slowly whisk in warm milk until smooth. Simmer until thick and creamy.
5. Season sauce with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove from heat.
6. Spread a thin layer of béchamel in the baking dish.
7. Add a layer of noodles, then ham, béchamel sauce, and mixed cheeses.
8. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and cheese on top.
9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
10. Uncover and bake 10–15 minutes more until bubbly and golden.
11. Rest 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley.
Pro Tip:
For extra indulgence, add a thin layer of Dijon mustard or caramelized onions between layers — very French and incredibly flavorful
