Ingredients

  • Meatball Ingredients
  • 6 oz ground beef
  • 6 oz spicy Italian sausage
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 slice white bread crusts removed, shredded
  • cup Italian-seasoned panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped Italian parsley
  • tbsp olive oil
  • Meatball Seasonings
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Sauce Ingredients
  • ½ can pasta sauce
  • ¼ tsp basil
  • ¼ tsp oregano
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper
  • Pinch of dried mint
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Method

  1. Prepare Meatball Mixture
  2. In a large bowl, tear the bread into small pieces.
  3. Add all meatball ingredients (except olive oil) and mix thoroughly with your hands until well combined.
  4. Form Meatballs
  5. Scoop 2-3 tbsp of the mixture and roll into balls. Place on a plate or cutting board.
  6. Brown the Meatballs
  7. Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat.
  8. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides. Transfer to a clean plate.
  9. Prepare the Sauce
  10. In the same pan, add pasta sauce and herbs. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer.
  11. Finish Cooking
  12. Return meatballs to the sauce, spooning sauce over them.
  13. Cover and cook for 5 minutes, then flip and cook another 5 minutes.
  14. Serve
  15. Enjoy hot over pasta or risotto.

Notes

For best flavor, refrigerate the meat mixture overnight before cooking.
Only sear the meatballs initially—they’ll finish cooking in the sauce.
Pairs well with pasta, risotto, or crusty bread.
